Craig Laughlin and Joe Beninati celebrate 25 seasons broadcasting together with limited edition commemorative wine

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE, March 25, 2022 – Craig Laughlin (Locker) and Joe Beninati (Joe B) partner with 3Steves Winery to commemorate 25 seasons broadcasting together with the release of a limited edition wine.

Locker and Joe B. have been a full-time broadcasting team calling Washington Capitals games together since 1996 for what is now called NBC Sports Washington.  In the 25 years that have followed, the two have described historical on-ice moments, created everlasting memories, and have developed many friendships with an amazing Capitals community. Capitals fans now have the opportunity to celebrate this milestone with Joe B. and Locker with the launch of this wine.

The limited edition wine, “Broadcast Blend,” is an elegant Cabernet Sauvignon with grapes from the Ziganti Vineyard, home of 3Steves Winery.  The wine was aged in 50% new French oak with varying toast levels and grain tightness, as well as 6% new Hungarian oak, for 18 months.  Limited quantities of bottles are available for purchase beginning on March 25, 2022 at 3 Steves Winery for $75 a bottle. A portion of all wine sales will support the Laughlin Family Foundation in their mission to help those affected by rare cancers.

Fans can also attend the official “Broadcast Blend” launch party on April 9, 2022 from 1:30pm- 7pm at Five Iron Golf located at 575 7th St NW Washington , DC 20004. Attendees will be able to taste and purchase bottles of “Broadcast Blend,” and will have the opportunity to get their bottles personally signed by Locker and Joe B and other local sports celebrities. Other celebrity guests attending include Capitals alumni Peter Bondra, Alan May, Brent Johnson and Karl Alzner, along with Al Koken, Wes Johnson, Jordan Giorgio, Alexa Landestoy, Harvey Grant, Courtney Laughlin, Ian Oland, and more (subject to change).  Tickets go on sale on March 25, 2022 and prices start at $75. Tickets can be purchased here. Proceeds from this event will also benefit The Laughlin Family Foundation.

"When I first tasted the 25th Anniversary ‘Broadcast Blend’ I knew that Locker and I were being treated to a wine that wine-lovers will enjoy.  It wasn't an over-the-top, heavyweight puncher. We loved the color immediately.  The nose was very appealing. There were hints of blackberry and notes of peppery spice that made it attractive.  It tasted like a wine that could be consumed right away but also showed signs that it had plenty of life ahead.  Once Locker finalized the label, I was convinced this would be a great keepsake and a special way to help the Laughlin Family Foundation,” said Joe Beninati.

3Steves Winery, located in Livermore, California, was founded by 3 home winemakers all by the name of Steve (3Steve). Over the past 12 years they have built a following that has made them one of the premier producers in California’s first wine region, the Livermore Valley appellation. They have won numerous awards, including Best Red Wine of Show at the San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition for their Zinfandel. The winery is located at 5700 Greenville Road in Livermore, California, at the top of the hills with beautiful 360 degree views of the valley below.
