The Laughlin Family Foundation Sets New Fundraising Record Raising Over $220,000 in 3rd Annual Celebrity Golf Tournament

The Laughlin Family Foundation hosted its 3rd annual charity golf tournament presented by Research Financial Strategies on Monday September 11th, 2023 and raised over $220,000.00, a new fundraising record for the foundation in a single event.

The all-day event at the Crofton Country Club in Crofton, MD on Monday September 11th, 2023 brought together over 140 golfers and participants to help raise awareness and fund initiatives to advance care, research, and education for rare cancers. The all day event featured plenty of laughs, drinks, prizes, live and silent auctions, mulligans, marshmallow and hockey net drives, million dollar shootouts, oyster shooters, and a new fan favorite contest “Beat the Joe,” where golfers attempted to chip golf balls farther than Capitals play-by-play announcer Joe Beninati.

A full cast of sports personalities and Washington Capitals players, staff, and alumni joined Craig Laughlin and rallied around the cause. The list of VIP guests included Washington Capitals forward TJ Oshie, current members of the coaching staff including head coach Spencer Carberry, Kurk Muller, Scott Allen, Mitch Love, and Scott Murray, Capitals alumni Olie Kolzig, Peter Bonrda, Alan May, Karl Alzner, Brent Johnson, and Ken Sabourin, radio voice of the Capitals John Walton, TV personality Alexa Landestoy, Washington Wizards announcers Chris Miller and Wes Hall, as well as Capitals PA announcer Wes Johnson and national anthem singer Bob McDonald, writer Tarik El-Bashir, and NASCASR driver Ryan Ellis.

Of the many fun and memorable moments of the day, Capitals head coach Spencer Carberry winning the longest marshamallow drive was one of the highlights, beating out former champ Ryan Ellis.
