A Day to Remember: Looking Back at Our 2026 Record-Breaking Celebrity Golf Tournament
One of our favorite parts of our annual golf tournament is seeing so many people come together, ready to have fun and support a cause that means so much to us: rare cancer research.
Our 6th Annual Celebrity Golf Tournament marked much more than just another incredible day out on the course. It was a powerful reminder of how far we have come as a foundation and how strongly our community shows up for rare cancer research.
And together, on the course this year, we made history once again, which marked an incredible milestone for our foundation. Thanks to the generosity of our presenting sponsors Neil & Emily Kishter, dozens of dedicated local business sponsors, energetic volunteers, and our wonderful celebrity guests, we raised a record-breaking $395,000!
Whether you joined us on the course this year or are just getting to know the Laughlin Family Foundation, we wanted to share a little more about this year’s tournament, the people who made it special, and the impact we’re making together.
Who Leads the Laughlin Family Foundation?
If you are new to our community, you might be wondering who we are and why we do what we do. In 2018, Linda Laughlin was diagnosed with uterine serous carcinoma, a rare and aggressive form of endometrial cancer that affects only about 6,000 women a year in the U.S.
When our family looked for answers, we discovered a heartbreaking truth: rare cancers are deeply underfunded, understudied, and misunderstood. We’re on a mission to change that. Endometrial cancer is one of the only malignancies rising in both incidence and mortality, yet research funding remains critically low.
We focus on funding vital research initiatives like our grants at Johns Hopkins and The Foundation for Women’s Cancer to improve screening, care, and treatment options for women's gynecologic cancers.
A Look at the 2026 Tournament (and Many Thanks)
It was a special day, and we’re so grateful to everyone who helped make it possible.
We are incredibly grateful to the Washington Capitals for their continued support of our Celebrity Golf Tournament and our fundraising efforts.
We want to give a very special thank you to Capitals Owner and CEO Ted Leonsis and his son Zach, President of Monumental Sports and Entertainment for making their Swing for a Cure debut. We really appreciate your support and are so grateful you could join us!
We were also fortunate to welcome current Capitals players and prospects, including Pierre-Luc Dubois, Matt Roy, Vincent Desharnais, Lynden Lakovic, along with Capitals Head Coach Spencer Carbery and Capitals Video Coach Brett Leonhardt. Capitals Alumni Karl Alzner and Devante Smith-Pelly joined us as well. And finally, a big thank-you to our beloved broadcasters Joe Benanti, Alan May, Alexa Landestoy, Ken Sabourin and Tarik El-Bashir for being part of this special event!
We also want to extend a heartfelt thank you to all our incredible celebrities, including Tim Kurkjian, Marissa Coleman, Pat Sajak, Bob McDonald, Dave Brown, John Booty, Ken Harvey, and Elliot Segal.
Their willingness to support us in person made it possible to reach $395,000 in donations, so thank you from all of us at the Laughlin Family Foundation!
Looking Ahead into 2027 and Beyond
Together, we raised $395,000 at this year’s event, and we couldn’t be more grateful. This support helps fund important cancer research and provides resources for patients and families who need them.
To everyone who golfed, bid in our online silent auction, volunteered their time, or supported us from home, thank you! We truly couldn’t do this without you, and we’re so grateful to have such an incredible community behind us.
Our community continues to grow, and we’re always happy to welcome more people who want to support our mission. There are so many ways to get involved, and we’d love for you to be part of it. Thank you for being part of Swing for a Cure and helping us continue this important work.
